Facial Skin Care

Facial skin is the most delicate part of the body. Skin on this area need extra gentle cleansing for a more youthful and healthy glow. Harsh soaps and detergents should be avoided, choose creamy soaps that offer moisturizers as well as gentle cleansing. Determining your skin type would also help you recognize the exact facial treatment you need for your specific skin type. Oily skin would require more cleansing regimens but delicate skin would require more moisture and oiliness to maintain the skin’s suppleness. Over cleansing should be avoided, water can wash away vital moisture and the skin’s natural barrier against dirt and diseases.

Exfoliating should help gently peel away the dead topmost skin layers and reveal the younger, fresher skin underneath. Facial scrubs physically remove the dull skin layer, but overdoing so can lead to premature wrinkling due to the unnecessary tugging of the skin, breaking down precious collagen in the process.

Chemical peels should be done in a medical setting and under a doctor’s supervision. It is the most expensive of all the exfoliating procedures. But it also offers the most rewarding result, making you look up to five years younger. It comes with its own caveats, due to its chemically induced nature, expect a few physical restrictions to abide by.

Retinoids come in cream forms and work by inducing the production of skin collagen and breaking down of dead skin cells. It works by minimizing skin pores and reducing wrinkles and laugh lines. Initially prescription based, they now come in various over the counter ointments.

All skin types require some form of moisturizer to seal in moisture in the skin. Acne prone skin would still need milder moisturizer in lesser potency, while dry skin would need copious amounts of moisturizer. There is such a thing as over moisturizing, so be sure not to over due it and risk clogging of pores resulting in acne.
