Human Skin Disorders

The most common skin disorder afflicting millions around the globe is acne. It is nothing more than the clogging of skin pores by dirt and oil, and the subsequent irritation of skin glands and infection. Adolescent acne is usually hormone induced and will naturally disappear as the teen grows into adulthood. Severe cases can be easily treated through a regimen of diet and exercise.

Bacterial infections such as impetigo are caused by the strep bacteria than enters the skin through a cut or injury. It is usually noticeably after a cold among children, but is easily treatable with antibiotics. Cellulitis is another type of bacterial infection that is subcutaneous in nature. While it is bacterial, it is usually not contagious. It can be fatal in some cases, as it often results in sepsis or meningitis if the bacterium spreads to the brain. The oral or IV administration of antibiotics offer the quickest treatment for cellulitis.

Chronic Skin Conditions such as rashes are usually caused by viruses which will clear up on its own without medical help. However, it is usually a sign of a more serious medical condition such as measles or scarlet fever. Localized rashes are easily treatable through ointments and are usually outgrown.

Psoriasis is a long term disorder that results on dry, scaly skin that chronically afflicts children well into adulthood. It is hereditary and can be controlled and treatable, and is a direct result of the abnormal reaction of the immune system.

Fungal Infections such as ringworms are common in warm and humid places and is highly contagious. Sharing of towels and clothes is one way of contracting the infection. Anti fungal creams can easily treat the infection, but steps must also be taken for its prevention.
