Skin Mole Types

Congenital nevi or moles that already exist at birth have the highest risk of turning into melanoma, a fatal form of skin cancer. Likewise, any progress on the appearance and size of the mole should be closely monitored.

Dysplastic nevi are large sized moles with irregular border shapes. These types of moles run in families as they are hereditary. People with these moles usually have a large number of them, averaging more than a hundred at any given time all over their bodies. These type of moles also run a greater risk of turning into melanoma.

Compound nevi are moles that are smooth and raised and are similar in appearance to melanoma. Have these kinds of moles checked by a doctor to determine the risk through biopsy.

Seborrheic Keratosis are the easiest type of mole to identify. They are dark colored and raised, almost similar to a small wart. These are harmless moles, and do not run the risk of turning into melanoma.
