Skin Rashes

Skin rashes are a general term which covers everything from a group of spots to inflammation of the skin to color and texture changes. Some rashes are accompanied by itching and discomfort, while other types of rashes have none at all. Rashes may be generalized i.e. cover large areas of the body or localized, and may last a few hours or may last a lifetime for chronic highly contagious rashes.

The kind and severity of skin rashes vary with different stages during a person’s life. Newborns may suffer diaper rash, children may contract chicken pox, and teens may acquire athlete’s foot, while older generations may have psoriasis and shingles. While these hold true for most people, various other types of rashes may afflict all sectors of society regardless of age.

Allergies and irritants from environmental causes like plants and animals are the most easily treatable. Bacterial infections and parasitic infestations may require some form of medical attention. Systemic illnesses may manifest skin rashes as one of its symptoms such as Lupus, and may require serious medical treatment. But the sources of most skin rashes remain relatively unknown.
