Skin allergies

Skin allergies occur as a normal response of the body’s immune system. As our skin comes in direct contact with foreign substances, our immune system releases a type of protein meant to directly fight off the unwanted foreign substance. It is the production and release of these antibodies which cause our allergic reactions. Swelling, redness, itching and general discomfort then ensues.

Topical steroids and antihistamines are usually prescribed by the doctor to combat the effects of allergies. Secondary infection from rashes may also be needed, such as antibiotics. The most common type of allergens vary from the avoidable such as pollen, dust and animal fluff, to the more serious such as bee stings chemical and medical interactions.
